The functions of the VKF (Association of Cantonal Fire Insurers) fire protection specialists are of great importance, as they are able to define effective fire protection measures for a wide variety of buildings. Residential, office and school buildings, industrial and commercial buildings, accommodation facilities and retail outlets can be built in timber up to a total height of 30 meters. Under certain conditions, the use of load-bearing and fire-section-forming components with timber components is also possible in high-rise buildings.

The Swiss Fire Protection Regulations BSV 2015 of the Association of Cantonal Fire Insurers (VKF) have made it possible to build with wood in all building categories and uses since January 1, 2015. The definition of fire resistance treats constructions with combustible components in the same way as non-combustible components.
