MFH Dorfstrasse, Wäldi

The project
The apartment building in Wäldi in the canton of Thurgau is a replacement for a barn that previously stood on the same site. The new four-storey building on Dorfstrasse now houses 8 spacious apartments of owner-occupied standard. The building is characterized by its spacious rooms. They are flooded with light, while the exposed wooden ceilings create a comfortable living environment.

The construction method
The basement with parking garage, cellar compartments, utility room and bicycle room as well as the staircase are made of reinforced concrete. Everything above ground level is made of wood. The exterior and interior walls of the first floor and other storeys are made of lightweight timber frame construction. The visible storey ceilings were constructed in solid timber using horizontal glulam.

The challenge
The rental apartments were planned according to the condominium standard. The high sound insulation requirements were met by weighting down the ceiling with chippings. The sound measurements carried out yielded extremely positive results.
