Complexe scolaire et sportif, Champagne
With the King Kong project, Fesselet Kramulz Architects from Vevay won the competition for the Champagne school and sports facility in the canton of Vaud. The wooden building with a charred "Yakisugi" façade was able to convince the Juri.
From the historic village center of Champagne, the new school site can be reached via the Chemin de Vidéride along the historic stone wall.
The new school complex consists of three buildings housing the various uses. The main building for the classrooms is a three-story wooden structure. On the first floor is the main entrance hall, from which the two staircases lead to the floors. The two circulation cores contain the sanitary facilities, elevators and technical rooms, creating generous open spaces.
The sports hall, also a wooden structure with a basement and two upper floors, also houses a grandstand, the theory room and the sanitary facilities for the public. On the upper floor there is accommodation for athletes and a dining room.
The timber construction relies on a regular grid with many recurring construction details. The access zones are planned in solid reinforced concrete construction and serve to brace the building. The exact constructions will be defined during the upcoming planning phases.
The wooden facade cladding will be treated according to the Japanese "Yakisugi" method, in which the wood surface is burned to make it more resistant to weather, insects and fungi.
